Magazine advertising, given the enormous number of titles and themes existing on the market, enables advertisers to communicate with their public in a highly effective way and at a cost similar to that of press advertising. Compared with press advertising, magazine advertising enjoys higher print and color reproduction quality and the display's useful life tends to last longer and way beyond the publication of the next edition. The minimum contract for magazine advertising varies between a quarter page and a half page, however, small formats are usually much more expensive proportionally than the full-page formats. National or prestigious magazine advertising helps considerably to build a very good brand image.

In recent years, countless local magazines, usually free, have hit the streets, on which there is no reliable audience data. To sell advertising and gain advertisers, many of these magazines focus their sales argument on a large print run, but suspiciously fail to mention the number of effective deliveries, readers or returns. Rigorous media planning cannot consider these displays, since there is no data to support such a recommendation.
